MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Inside the historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a massive mural was unveiled, one of the only commissioned works of art in more than 150 years.

Standing 25 feet tall beneath the choir loft, the breathtaking oil on canvas shimmers with gold leaf and platinum, greeting millions of visitors as they enter America’s parish church.

The vision, sparked by Timothy Cardinal Dolan over 15 years ago, pays tribute to the immigrant story, the courage of first responders, and the Catholic legacy of New York.

It features historic figures like Governor Al Smith and philanthropist Pierre Toussaint alongside scenes of the apparition at Knock, Ireland, and Mother Cabrini surrounded by modern-day immigrants.
