HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Audiences across Hawaii have more opportunities to watch the locally produced film “Chaperone” in theaters.

Set in Hilo and featuring an entirely Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) cast, “Chaperone” follows a 29-year-old woman who befriends an 18-year-old athlete who mistakes her for a fellow high school student.

It was written and directed by Zoë Eisenberg, who is from Hawaii Island, with a musical score by Taimane Gardner.

The film won Breakout Feature Grand Jury Award in 2024 at the Slamdance Film Festival and drew a packed house when it premiered in Hawaii on Sept. 12 at Consolidated Ward Theaters.
