OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Nuclear company BWTX Technologies announced on Tuesday that they have signed $1.5 billion contract from the National Nuclear Security Administration.

"BWXT has got a 65 year history working with naval reactors, and this kind of ties directly into that business unit of enriching uranium to support that naval reactor mission," Kenneth Givens, Uranium Enrichment Director at BWXT, said.

According to a press release from BWXT, the contract with the NNSA will help establish a "domestic uranium enrichment capability for defense purposes."

The company announced in April that they had purchased 97 acres in Oak Ridge to deploy the Domestic Uranium Enrichment Centrifuge Experiment at the Horizon Center Industrial Park near the K-25 site.
