GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Police in Arkansas have arrested a man accused of forcing a Grand Junction homeless man to take a lethal amount of methamphetamine at gunpoint in 2022.
The investigation began on February 3, 2022 after Grand Junction Police Officers found 26-year-old Kurt Abney, a homeless man, dead in a sleeping bag underneath the 5th Street Bridge while doing a welfare check. Officials said that officers also found assorted drug paraphernalia nearby, which led them to believe he died from an accidental overdose.
Just under a year later in January 2023, GJPD investigators were informed that Abney’s death may not have been accidental— Abney was allegedly held at gunpoint and forced to take a fatal amount of meth.
