A repair project on Arlington Avenue in South Toledo following a major sewer collapse that began as a sinkhole last year will double in cost because of the severity of the problem.
“Our repair plan has changed,” Doug Stephens, director of the Toledo Department of Public Utilities, said at a news conference on Thursday. Plans had originally called for lining the sewer.
“It was our hope we were not going to have to do full replacement. But we found out the conditions were different,” he said. “The contractors continued to find out more information on the state of the sewer system. We now have to replace the main sewer line.
