WASHINGTON – New Orleans lawyer Peter Thomson was confirmed Thursday to be the Central Intelligence Agency’s inspector general as the U.S. Senate Republican majority used the “nuclear option” to break a partisan logjam in confirming President Donald Trump's nominees.

Thomson, who is a member of the Stone Pigman law firm, was among the first the Senate confirmed on a voice vote. He also is one of a handful of President Donald Trump’s nominees from Louisiana who have cleared committee hearings, then languished on the calendar awaiting a final confirmation vote by the full Senate. The vote was 51-47.
