A mobile health care clinic debuted free and low-cost dental services in Shadyside Thursday, but its veterinary component proved to be the biggest draw.

Targeting under- and uninsured patients, that’s considered a win: The level of care pet owners tend to offer their animals often has a domino effect, leading to better human health outcomes, said Taylor Elrick, project manager for Allegheny Health Network’s Center for Inclusion Health, which partnered with the Edgewood-based Metro Community Health Center for the dental care expansion.

The Point Breeze-based Humane Animal Rescue Pittsburgh (HARP) provided the veterinary care, as it has since the clinic began in 2023.
