GREENVILLE, S.C. —

North Carolina lawmakers united in Washington, D.C., Thursday morning in a bipartisan effort to secure more federal relief funding to rebuild western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Gov. Josh Stein's office says in a release, "North Carolina leaders have expressed appreciation for every dollar directed toward recovery, but current federal financial support falls short. In total, federal support to date amounts to approximately 9% of the total damage western North Carolina has suffered."

11th District Rep. Chuck Edwards tells News 4 that on Friday, "the House is going to vote on a continuing resolution that includes $22.5 billion more in disaster recovery funding."
