Authorities in Kiana are investigating an incident involving a Village Public Safety Officer and an armed man early Wednesday morning.
Troopers say around 1 a.m., the VPSO encountered an adult male outside a residence who was brandishing a gun. The officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he did not comply and approached the VPSO. The officer fired multiple times with his duty sidearm, but the man was not struck and fled on foot.
Family members later disarmed and detained the man. At first light, Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Bureau of Investigation personnel responded and have detained the suspect. No injuries were reported from the incident.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation will lead the case, which will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecution
