South Park’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have announced that the latest episode of the controversial show’s 27th season would not air as scheduled, just hours before it was due to be broadcast.

In an unusual statement, the duo said the episode “didn’t get it done in time.”

They added, “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week.”

The cancellation comes amid high anticipation for the fifth episode, which would have been the first to air following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah last week.
