Partial building collapsed at old Sportsbarn site Thursday

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a partial building collapse at the old Sportsbarn building downtown Thursday afternoon.

The call came in around 4:10pm for a collapse at Market Street and East 3rd Street, where the building has been undergoing demolition. Engine 1 confirmed a portion of the structure had fallen, but no injuries were reported.

Chattanooga building inspectors were called to the scene, and all work was stopped pending their review.

Bricks and debris were scattered onto the sidewalk, but the area had already been closed and barricaded. At the time of the collapse, East 3rd Street had only one lane open.

The scene was turned over to city building inspectors, the Chattanooga Fire Department says.
