WILMINGTON, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Wilmington has given an "all clear" alert after the school was placed on lockdown.

Students at the school told WRAL News they received the alert to shelter in place around 6:30 p.m. after rumors of a gunman began spreading on X and Snapchat.

Police investigated and found that it was a false alarm. No active shooter was present on the campus. The school will provide more information to students about class cancelations.
