JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - A Republican challenger for a Mississippi seat in the U.S. Senate called on President Donald Trump to send the National Guard to Jackson.
The call to action by Sarah Adlakha follows the Trump administration's possible troop deployments beyond Washington, D.C.
Jackson's homicide rate was above 77 per 100,000 people in 2024, which is the highest in the United States among cities of comparable population. As of September 18, 2025, police said there have been 41 homicides in Jackson this year. This is down from 85 this time last year.
Adlakha said the Jackson Police Department (JPD) is doing everything they can with about 275 officers, but they cannot do it alone.
