The first day of on-ice sessions for the Maple Leafs featured a number of one-on-one and two-on-two puck battles with the players showing the intensity coach Craig Berube wants.
“We wanted to have a good first day. It’s a tough day. It’s a lot of battling. I thought it was really intense which is what we want,” said Berube. “Today was about work, compete, second and third efforts. I thought the guys did a real good job.”
A couple of battles stood out, including Auston Matthews having his way with Marlies prospect Noah Chadwick.
“He’s of the best players in the game,” Chadwick said of Matthews. “It’s a good learning opportunity. You’re going to make mistakes. He made a nice move. So I’ve just got to learn.” Hockey
