Derrik’s Ride will be hosting its 23rd annual event Saturday, Sept. 20 to raise funds for a child in need of major medical care.

Hosted at Old Abilene Town, this year’s event is supporting Brogen Hiesterman of Junction City.

“Most bikers have a huge heart, and you give them a cause especially a kid, they will come out of the woodwork to help,” said Tori Murphy, event organizer. “It’s just in their nature.”

Diagnosed with leukemia, Hiesterman, five-years-old, is battling leukemia and a heart defect. He is beginning with treatment for his leukemia, then he will be operated on for his heart defect. The whole process will take several years.

The signature feature of the event is an over 100 mile poker run throughout Dickinson and Geary counties. Riders will be going to cities such as Junct
