Recounts will be held in Boston this weekend for both the mayoral and District 7 councilor races in last week’s preliminary election .
The recounts were requested by mayoral candidate Domingos DaRosa and council candidate Mavrick Afonso, who each came in third in their respective races.
Though DaRosa was far behind the second-place finisher, Josh Kraft, Kraft has since dropped out of the race after he lost to Mayor Michelle Wu by a 49-percentage-point margin. Under state law, the third-place candidate in the preliminary election should replace the runner-up on the ballot in the general election, but only if they receive at least 3,000 total votes; DaRosa received 2,409, according to unofficial tallies.
