LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln dealership lost more than $62,000 after a man allegedly forged two checks earlier this year, according to court documents.
On March 24, Lincoln Police were called to Anderson Ford for a report of belated fraud. A financial officer told investigators that 60-year-old Luther Matthies had sold his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado to Anderson Mazda on Jan. 14. The dealership wrote Matthies a check for $17,300.
Investigators said Matthies later deposited two counterfeit Anderson Mazda checks—one for $18,000 on March 14 and another for $180,000 on March 17—into an account he had just opened with First National Bank of Omaha on March 13.
According to the arrest affidavit, the deposits were quickly followed by multiple debit transactions, cash withdrawals and a $65,000
