MADISON (WKOW) — Golfers gathered for the Drive Out Childhood Cancer Cup, marking the event's 10th year. Proceeds from the event benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation .
The foundation is named after Alex, a four-year-old who started a lemonade stand in 2000 to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Alex raised $1 million before passing away in 2004 at the age of 8.
Alex's mother, Liz Scott, shared her thoughts on what events like this mean to her.
"It means, it's hard to describe what it means to me. Events like this that happen all across the country, that Northwestern Mutual offices put on, have been instrumental in keeping Alex's legacy going," she said.
Scott told us Alex's Lemonade Stand has now raised more than $300 million, funding projects nationwide.
