Former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann is likely to face a four-day hearing over a motor vehicle stealing charge in Tasmania, which he has pleaded not guilty to.

Mr Lehrmann, 30, appeared by phone in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday.

He has been charged with stealing a Toyota Prado from Mountain River, in the Huon Valley, on November 20 last year.

The court was told the hearing will likely take four days, during which 12 witnesses will be called, including petrol station staff and five police officers.

Complainant Gail Oates, her husband and her son are also listed as witnesses.

Defence counsel Zali Burrows told the court she will subpoena a media interview given by Ms Oates to Nine News in February.

Ms Burrows said they intend to compare any discrepancies between this interview
