CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A memorial and prayer vigil was held Thursday night in Charleston for anyone looking to honor the life of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was shot and killed last week during a public speaking event in Utah.

Rose Feltner, one of the first to show up at the event at the West Virginia Capitol, said, “Oh, I was sad. It tore me up, and it broke my heart.”

Many people came out in support of Kirk at the Capitol steps, while others like Jami Marie decided to silently protest on Kanawha Boulevard.

“I’d rather be heard, but that’s impossible in this world at this moment. Can’t say too much, can’t do too much,” Marie said.

Visitors from across the state filled the Capitol grounds on Thursday.
