ATLANTA — With new views on issues such as abortion rights and gun safety, Republican-turned-Democrat Geoff Duncan launched his ground campaign for governor on Wednesday.

He ventured into a southeast Atlanta coffee shop seeking support and votes for a primary that's eight months away.

In 2020, Duncan was the Republican lieutenant governor of Georgia who took an unusually public stand against then-President Donald Trump when Trump, without evidence, hotly disputed the election results in Georgia.

Trump backers vilified him. Duncan declined to run for re-election in 2022 and then left the GOP.
