EAST LANSING – The Michigan State women's soccer program was looking to get back in the win column on Sept. 18, facing a tough task in its Big Ten home opener against No. 4 UCLA, one of the favorites to win the conference. MSU bounced back from two consecutive losses to close the non-conference slate with a draw on the road at Rutgers to open Big Ten play on Sept. 12.

In seven games, UCLA had allowed just two goals with five clean sheets, but the Spartans were able to find the game's first goal in the 19th minute. MSU's two transfers in midfielder Kayla Briggs and forward Kennedy Bell combined on the play, with Briggs leading a pass to Bell, who rifled a shot over the UCLA goalkeeper.
