LONG BEACH — The Valley Christian football team scored two touchdowns in less than 20 seconds to end the first quarter on a positive note before pulling away for a 28-13 road victory over St. Anthony in a nonleague game Thursday night.
“We knew that the toughest team would win,” Valley Christian coach Brendan Chambers said.
Valley Christian was led by junior quarterback Graham Lunzer, who transferred from St. John Bosco, completed 15 of 28 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Lunzer also ran for 31 yards on 11 carries.
“I talked to the them, told them I was going to give it my all the second half,” Lunzer said. “Came out calmer, trusted the offensive line and the receivers made big plays.”
The Defenders improved to 3-2 with area wins over Gahr, Cerritos and St. Anthony. They will h
