LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mayor Linda Gorton presented her proposed budget on Tuesday. The $539.2 million budget includes $47 million for capital projects, a record $3.4 million for winter safety equipment and $3 million for a new Fire Training academy. There are no tax increases in her budget.
In her address, Gorton said federal grants contribute to the General Fund. Gorton said while there is uncertainty surrounding grants, the city is prepared to adjust.
She said, “Like all cities, we still don’t have enough information to do a thorough analysis of the unfolding changes at the federal level, but we have assessed our areas of concern, and are prepared, should changes come.”
Gorton added this is the first year since the 2020 pandemic without money from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
