Short-term rental accommodation is making itself at home in the City of Canning.

But despite growing concerns around the effect it is having on the availability of housing for renters, as well as potential noise and antisocial behaviour impacting neighbours, the city remains at ease with the current balance.

A request to convert a residential house at 27A Massey Street in Rossmoyne to unhosted short-stay accommodation and another to use three units at 22 Sleight Street in St James for “holiday accommodation” are currently before the council.

The State Government last year passed the Short Term Rental Accommodation Act 2024, requiring providers to list their properties on a register if rented to an individual for fewer than 90 days in a 12-month period.
