Millions of Australians who receive Centrelink benefits are receiving a much-needed boost.
The payment rates for Age Pension, Carer Payment, and Disability Support Pension increased from Saturday, with the new amounts to begin entering bank accounts automatically, Services Australia said.
Payments increased by $29.70 a fortnight for singles and $44.80 a fortnight for couples.
Other government payment rates and limits also rose on Saturday as a result of indexation, to help account for changes in the cost of living, prices, and wages.
Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said the government wants to “help take the pressure off” when it comes to cost of living.
