NSW Police have recovered the body of the pilot whose aircraft crashed in Budawang National Park on Thursday afternoon.

The 60-year-old man, who is yet to be identified, was found about 2pm on Friday after a multi-agency search and rescue operation.

A NSW police spokesman said the body was found at the crash site with the "heavily damaged" Cirrus SR20 plane.

At a 1pm press conference, Detective Chief Inspector David Cockram said it was unlikely the pilot would have survived the crash.

"It's pretty full-on bush terrain," he said.

"Last night we had fog, so that prevented the aircraft from being able to deploy people down into that exact location."
