The Trump administration is seeking an emergency order from the Supreme Court to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.
On Thursday (September 18), Trump asked for the emergency order after an appeals court blocked his attempt earlier this week to fire Cook, per HuffPost.
The emergency appeal comes amid Trump’s efforts to reshape the Fed’s seven-member governing board. Trump initially attempted to fire Cook last month, citing mortgage fraud allegations pushed by Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte. Cook has not been charged with a crime and denies any misconduct.
A federal judge ruled last week that Trump’s attempt to fire Cook was likely illegal, noting that Fed governors can only be removed “for cause” and that such cause must relate to actions taken during t
