The trial of a man accused of fatally hitting a pedestrian on McGrath Road in 2022 started Thursday morning in Fairbanks.

Anuson Poolsawat, 42, faces charges of felony manslaughter, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and misdemeanor reckless driving in connection with the death of 25-year-old Josiah Martin.

In her opening statement, prosecutor Elizabeth Crail told the jury that Martin was killed by Poolsawat near Willow Grouse Road and Frog Pond Circle just after midnight on July 17, 2022.

Crail said that a group of people interested in cars met up weekly at Alaska Dog Mushers Association off Farmers Loop Road on Saturday nights. The group of 25-30 vehicles then took off on Farmers Loop Road and turned onto McGrath Road, planning to go for a drive on the Steese Highway.
