The Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education passed three resolutions Tuesday related to events in the month of October, honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Oct. 13, recognizing Attendance Awareness month, and recognizing LGBTQ History month.
During public comments, multiple people spoke out against the resolution recognizing LGBTQ History month. Board members called out the rhetoric as hostile misinformation.
The resolution states FNSBSD does not discriminate based on sexual orientation and highlights how numerous studies show providing protections to members of LGBTQ staff and students directly promotes safety, security and academic and social success.
