With Medicaid cuts looming, a rural hospital in eastern Missouri is closing departments due to years-long financial issues. Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is closing its Labor and Delivery Department, its Home Health Department, and restructuring staff.

According to an announcement on the hospital’s Facebook page, the department closures are intended to strengthen its future, citing significant financial challenges in recent years. The announcement says these departments have seen declining demand and increased costs.

It adds that these closures will allow them to see positive net revenues and grow services in higher demand such as women’s wellness and outpatient surgery.
