CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- The Cape Girardeau Fire Department will conduct fire hydrant testing throughout the city until early November.

This annual testing tracks pressure and water flow in gallons per minute. The information collected will be entered in the mapping software system to help firefighters make informed decisions during emergencies.

Residents may experience temporary decreases in water pressure and discolored tap water during testing. This occurs due to increased water flow stirring up debris.

If discoloration persists, residents should let the water run until clear or contact Alliance Water or the fire department for assistance.
