Halloween came early for some U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Tampa International Airport who found human remains, including part of a skull, in a traveler's baggage.

Officials said the passenger had declared 10 cigars before officers searched a foil-wrapped duffel bag and found the remains, along with undeclared cigars and prohibited plants, CBP Director of Field Operations Carlos Martel said in a post on X.

Martel said the passenger told officers the items were "for rituals," but due to health risks, the items were seized and destroyed.

"At @CBP, we never know what baggage may hold, but smugglers should know we’ll always have a bone to pick," Martel wrote in the post.
