Los Angeles County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly to 5.7% in August, down from 5.8% in July, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.
The 5.7% rate was down from 6.1% a year ago.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted figures were not immediately available, the August unemployment rate was 4.6%.
Statewide, California’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.5% in August, the same rate as July but up slightly from 5.4% in August 2024. The comparable estimates for the nation were 4.3% in August, 4.2% in July, and 4.2% a year ago.
Total non-farm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 21,200 jobs between July and August to reach nearly 4.6 million.
