A federal judge has dismissed President Donald Trump’s $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times , saying the filing was more of a political broadside than a proper legal complaint.

U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday, based in Tampa, Florida, ruled on Friday that Trump’s 85-page submission failed to meet basic procedural standards. Instead of offering a concise legal argument, the complaint was filled with self-praise, attacks on adversaries, and even personal defenses of Trump’s family.

“A complaint is not a public forum for vituperation and invective — not a protected platform to rage against an adversary,” Merryday wrote. He directed Trump to submit a new, professional filing of no more than 40 pages within 28 days.
