OLYMPIA, WA – The Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Department of Agriculture have issued a recall for Signature Pet Care Songbird Blend Wild Bird Food 7 LB. This product, sold at Albertsons, Safeway and Haggen stores in Washington and Oregon, contains invasive weed seeds.
The recall was initiated after Palmer amaranth, a highly invasive weed, was found growing in a Safeway parking lot. This plant is known for its rapid growth and resistance to many herbicides, posing a threat to crops like corn and soybeans.
Albertsons, Safeway and Haggen have voluntarily removed the affected birdseed from their shelves. Global Harvest Foods, the manufacturer, is cooperating to ensure the removal of the product from the market.
Customers are advised to remove any remaining seed
