A teenager who was riding an unregistered motorbike is fighting for his life and a driver has been charged following an incident in Safety Bay .

Police say a “group of youths” were riding unregistered motorcycles on Georgetown Drive when the driver of a Suzuki Grand Vitara — a 40-year-old woman — was involved in an incident with the young rider of a blue Yamaha motorcycle.

A police spokesman said the 16-year-old rider lost control of his bike and crashed, leaving him with serious injuries.

He was rushed by paramedics to Royal Perth Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said the boy was in a critical condition in the intensive care unit on Wednesday morning.

Rockingham Detectives have since charged the woman with dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm.
