CHICAGO — A brand new affordable housing development is coming to the city's Pilsen neighborhood.

Community leaders, including Mayor Brandon Johnson, participated Friday in a celebratory ceremony for Casa Yucatán.

The land where the property will be built is currently a vacant lot across the street from Benito Juarez High School at Ashland Avenue and 21st Place.

Casa Yucatan will offer 98 affordable housing units.

The Resurrection Project attained the property in 2021, hoping to address rising rents and prevent long-time Pilsen residents from being displaced from the neighborhood.

"We are proud to continue our work to create healthy and vibrant communities where families can stay and grow and thrive and make their dreams a reality," said Raul Raymundo, The Resurrection Project CEO.
