A man with half a dozen protective orders barring him from contacting a woman was arrested on Monday at a motel in Vernon where he allegedly assaulted her and tried fleeing in a vehicle and on foot when police arrived.

Officers responded to the Vernon Motel on the report of a domestic disturbance and allegedly found a man and a woman involved in a “heated altercation” while getting into a pickup truck, according to the Vernon Police Department .

An officer put down a tire deflation device at the exit of the motel parking lot to ensure the driver would not take off, police said. According to police, the driver of the truck sped off and went up a grassy embankment to avoid the exit.
