U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to Maryland Gov. Wes Moore over rising costs of the reconstruction project of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
In the letter, Duffy said he would like to talk to Moore to see how the funds are being used and provide federal oversight. Duffy also said diversity, equity and inclusion contracting practices are getting in the way of the bridge being built, adding to more delays.
“It’s my job to ensure the American people’s tax dollars are spent properly and major projects are completed on time and on budget,” Duffy said. “DEI contracting practices and ballooning project costs are already threatening to delay this critical project. We will leverage our oversight authorities to ensure this vital bridge is rebuilt the right way.”
