An Akron Public Schools official who was facing termination has resigned.
Facilities Services Director Steven Keenan, who had been on paid administrative leave since June 6, submitted a resignation letter on Sept. 17 to Superintendent Mary Outley that said his job had placed “significant mental and emotional strain” on him and his family.
Keenan, who began with the district as a grounds mechanic in 2017 and served as a grounds foreman and interim director before becoming facilities services director in March 2024, wrote that his decision to resign had not come easily for him and that he was proud of the work he accomplished under challenging circumstances and of the dedication he had seen throughout the district.
