EDWARDSVILLE — Citizens attending Wednesday's Madison County Board meeting were not happy when a resolution for a Day of Remembrance for conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was overwhelmingly approved along party lines.
A number of people spoke against the idea and several of them continued to strongly voice their opposition as they walked out after the resolution passed.
The "Resolution Declaring Oct. 14, 2025, A Day of Remembrance in Honor of Charlie Kirk" was approved 14-6, with three board members absent.
Voting "no" were Valarie Doucleff, Michael "Doc" Holliday, Bill Stoutenborough, Shawndell Wilson, Victor Valentine, and Alison Lamothe.
