Police on Friday confirmed a driver suffered from a self-inflicted wound before a deadly crash early Thursday evening in north Lubbock.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the crash the crash that happened at 5:29 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement from Lubbock police.

That's when a Lubbock police officer witnessed a passenger car traveling south in the 200 block of Indiana Avenue and veer across the northbound lanes of travel. It left the roadway and struck a metal fence before hitting three more vehicles in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

The officer immediately began to attempt life-saving measures on the driver, who was a 44-year-old man. He was pronounced dead by EMS a short time later.
