SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. -- A new lawsuit accuses the Sun Prairie Board of Education of violating Wisconsin's Open Meetings Law when it comes to discussions about student safety and misconduct investigations.
A copy of the lawsuit's complaint, obtained by News 3 Now, accuses the board of repeatedly holding closed-session meetings without meeting the specificity requirements laid out under state law.
The law requires local governing bodies to hold all meetings in public, with some exceptions. Boards are allowed to go into closed session to discuss " employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data" of employees; personnel problems and information that might cause reputational damage if discussed publicly; and when conferring with legal counsel to discuss strategy on litigation
