The East Bay Regional Park District has finished a three-year project to reduce wildfire risks across 667 acres at Anthony Chabot Regional Park. Crews removed dead and dying eucalyptus trees and brush using a climate-friendly carbonizer that produces low-emission biochar to improve soil health. The $12.5 million effort – the first of its kind in California — was funded by state, federal, and local sources, including support from former state senators Nancy Skinner and Bob Wieckowski, U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla, and the California Coastal Conservancy.
