FENTON, MI – The former site of a restaurant and speakeasy destroyed in a fire more than three years ago has been given new life as the home of a mixed-use building.

The property, located at 113 Mill St., was previously home to El Topo, a Latin American restaurant, and The Relief & Resource Co., a speakeasy.

The businesses, which opened in 2016, occupied the same one-story building.

A fire occurred in June 2022 and destroyed more than 50% of the building, which meant it had to be torn down under city regulations.

“When the fire happened, we really lost two entities in one structure,” Assistant City Manager Michael Hart said. 18
