MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) --Mount Pleasant Town Council will consider increasing some of their employee salaries, particularly first responders.

The town conducted a wage study that compared their employees' earnings to other areas. "It's a 27-year career in order to retire or at the age of 55. If we’re not retaining our firefighters how safe are we going to be 15 years from now," said John Baker, the director of government relations for the Professional Firefighters Association of South Carolina.

This year, Mount Pleasant conducted a wage study with the goal of looking at strong recruitment, high retention, and organizational resilience. They looked at wages and incentive programs and compared it to neighboring areas they compete with directly or are similarly sized.
