After working hard to earn his spot on the Chatham Maroons, rookie goalie Blake Verberne had some time to rest Thursday.
His teammates put on such a dominating display, they seemed to be playing keepaway at times in a 10-1 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians.
They outshot the visitors 63-28 in front of 480 fans at Chatham Memorial Arena as Verberne earned his first junior B win.
“First of many,” he said.
The 18-year-old from Watford made the team after an “unreal” training camp, head coach and general manager Brennan Feasey said.
“He did all the right things,” Feasey said. “He put the work in in the crease, put the work in off the ice, was always asking questions on how to get better. His effort, you never had to question. That kid earned everything that he’s got.
“I know it’s been hi
