Spring is late in the high country this year. So it was lovely to drop down to the coast and step out into unexpected but welcome warmth for a few days .

Wattles and waratahs were in flower , but the first plant to catch my eye was our lovely native rock orchid ( Dendrobium speciosum ) growing on rocks and carrying large sprays of creamy flowers.
Rock orchids occur on the east coast and nearby ranges from far north Queensland to south-east Victoria.
Some are lithophytes and grow on bare rocks or stones, others are epiphytes and grow on another plant, though they are not parasitic.
