ATLANTA — The walk to school will get safer for students at six Atlanta schools as officials roll out new safety plans.

At Stanton Elementary School in Atlanta, principal Dr. Qualyn McIntyre said she had seen a recent safety surge on the roads.

"Attendance is a big thing for us," McIntyre said. How students are getting to school is important as well, and we want to make sure they're safe."

Nichole Hollis manages the Safe Routes to School program. The Atlanta Department of Transportation rolled out safety action plans at six Atlanta elementary schools in areas deemed dangerous and prone to serious traffic-related injuries.
